Chapter 7 - Success

“Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can’t lose.”

-Bill Gates

Success is a lousy teacher as Bill Gates stated in the quote above. Many entrepreneurs start businesses that become successful then they fail.

They fail because they don’t know how to handle the sudden success. Success can come quick and it can ruin you. There’s many ways success can cause you to fail and most people know that success can destroy success.

You can reach a point that you think is a success, but it is just the beginning. When people reach this point, they have a habit of thinking they have reached what they were trying to reach. They never had a real goal in mind before they started. You should be very careful not to do this.

This will cause your business to fail. The failure will be sudden and something you wouldn’t expect.

When you reach this point, you should never stop reaching out to consumers because consumers come and go. You should reach out to new customers to fill the spaces where you lose users. If you don’t do this, your business will crumble.

I have seen people that became dependent on their success. They forgot who they were before they reached success. When they did this their business crumbled before their eyes.

Never forget about the person you had been before you reached that point in your life. Having self-confidence is important but never be dependent on success because it could be there one day and gone the next. Never lose your real self.

When you reach success and people tell you that you have changed, you need to look at what you have become. Most people think that people are mad about their success when they say this, but people see a change in you. The change could be a change that could ruin everything you have obtained and you will never realize it.

The key to dealing with success is staying humble. No matter how much success you receive, you should always stay as humble as you were when you had nothing. Many people find this complicating to do. You will also probably find it complicating.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t be proud. You should always be proud of what you have achieved. You should never act as if you deserve what you have obtained. When people compliment you, you should in turn compliment them on one of their goals they have achieved.

Never act as if everyone you come across knows you. There will be people that don’t know you. There will also be people that will never know you. Act the same way you had done before you obtained success. Never change who you truly are.
